Goodwill Mud Run
> 04/14-15 – SCTAC, Greenville
Just five years ago mud runs were a new concept in
Greenville. To steal a phrase from the advertising world, “Baby, look at me
now.” The Goodwill Mud Run is held at the SCTAC facility (formerly Donaldson
Center) and features some of the muddiest obstacles around.
There are a lot of bylaws for this race, but the one that
makes us smile most is “race numbers” have to be visible at all times for each
participant. Now that is a challenge considering how muddy this one gets. Learn
more at www.GreenvilleMudRun.org.
Greer Earth Day Run
> 04/21 – Downtown Greer
Four events are tied into this year’s Greer Earth Day Run –
a 1-mile kids’ run, a 5K, a 10K and a half marathon. The half starts at the
intersection of Trade and Randall downtown. The course makes a loop around the
downtown area before heading south on Highway 101. After reaching the
southernmost point (J. Verne Smith Pkwy at Highway 14), the route turns north
back to the city. After a final loop around the downtown area, the race
finishes at Greer City Park.
The 10K is essentially a double loop around downtown, but
each is slightly different and covers many historic areas of the city. The 5K
is the first loop and features some short, challenging hills.

The Family Dental Health Run4Fun

Held at the Eastside YMCA, this fun little event includes a
5K and a kids’ fun run. Expect a very flat and fast course. Good for beginners
looking to gain some racing experience.

15th Annual Stump Jump XC Bike Race
> 04/22 – Croft State Park, Spartanburg
This course features rolling Piedmont terrain with short
steeps, twisty sections, roots, stream crossings, and lots of fast flats. The
Stump Jump is one of the region’s most popular cycling events. The race course
will only use the Southside trails of Croft State Park and there is a slightly
new start and finish this year at Spartanburg Sky Knights field.
Race participants will range from beginners all the way to
professional level riders. Get more at www.stumpjump.org.
Safe Harbor 5K
> 04/28 – Fluor Field, Greenville
This 5K starts and ends at Fluor Field in the West End with
a course that weaves through downtown Greenville. Timed awards are unique
pottery pieces created by local artisan and Fleet Feet owner, Sheila
McCullough. Awards include the standards – fastest males and females – but also
include some unique ones such as husband/wife, mother and daughter/son and father
with daughter/son.
